Nicole: Give me a little bit of history about Lacrimas Profundere. How did the band get together?
Oli: We founded our band a very long time age in a very distant galaxy. Unfortunately my brother quit the band last year because the inquiries for concerts, tours and festivals -which we luckily get- got more and more. He couldn't arrange that in the first place with his private life and his job. You know, we slept in ugly rooms, took a shower in moldy showers and took a piss in every toilet near the highways in Germany! But, for me: the nightliner is my classy hotel, the laundry near the club is my bathroom and the tent near the stage is the Hilton, I love this life! You need to breath the Mötley side of life I think, that’s important to play in our band!
We were searching for a very long time to find this hobo next to me (points to Rob). He was... actually I do only empty my mailbox once a week and he was inside it... in a newspaper. Well, the current line-up lasts since about a year.
Nicole: How did you come up with the band name? What does it mean?
Oli: We knew we wanted a name that reflects our kind of music and secondly we knew we don't want a name which is used by another band already. We knew, if we'll get rich and famous, we don't want a lawsuit with any other band in America that uses this band name already. Every now and then we read that one can get in trouble with that. We didn't want to get a band name in English because it could possibly be used already and we didn't want to get a band name in German because we don't like it. Though my brother, our singer at that time, brought a Latin dictionary. I don't know where he got that from because he has never learned Latin. Though we left through the dictionary and suddenly it was this compound word "Lacrimas Profundere" which means "Shedding Tears". We liked that very much and took it as the name of our band.
Nicole: Can you give me one word to describe your music to someone not familiar with it?
Oli: Rock 'N' Sad!
Nicole: What does that mean?
Oli: A wild ride by a stolen Ford Mustang to Sin City! We like Rock very much, e.g. Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses, the classic rock bands but we don't like hairspray and colorful clothes. We try to add something gloomy to Rock. We want to keep the groovy element of Rock but pull out the color and replace it with black. Our aim is to sound like Mötley Crüe and Guns N' Roses with deeper voices.
Nicole: Can you give me one word to describe each of you?
(everybody’s laughing)
Rob: What was the question?
Oli: One word that describes each of us.
Rob: Oh fuck!
Tony: Just one word??
Oli: I'm Ur-Pils (annotation: Ur-Pils = German beer) and he is (pointing to Tony) Campari. What's left on the table? (annotation: There were several drinks on a table)
Naturell (annotation: Naturell = water without gas) goes well with Peter, our bassist and he's Jägermeister (points to Rob).
Tony: He's really Jäger!
Oli: For my Ur-Pils mate, our drummer Korl, isn't much left except orange juice (everybody's laughing)
Tony: Everybody knows this isn't true!
Nicole: What are your creative influences for song writing? Take me through the band's song writing process.
Oli: Most often it happens by chance. You're jamming at home, everybody has his own thoughts and ideas and a rough draft develops. We try to establish a shell within 1.5 years. Then we meet our producer. He removes the trash, inserts the windows and paints it multicolored. Well, how develops a shell...? Stones, mortar... we are the bricklayers of Gothic!
Nicole: So you are the newest addition to the Mama Trash Family. How did you hear about Mama Trash?
Oli: We know Ulysses from Halbe Miete pretty well. He's also the manager of The 69 Eyes and Apocalyptica. That's why we've been on tour with Apocalyptica. The 69 Eyes cooperate very close with Apocalyptica and Mama Trash. Though we had the chance to contact Mama Trash with the help of Ulysses and Halbe Miete Management.
Nicole: What made you decide to become a musician?
Oli: I heard that musicians get very long orgasms on stage. Each of us enjoys orgasms. Well, does anyone else have a different idea?
Tony: For me it was the telecast "Hard 'n Heavy" on Tele 5 (annotation: Tele 5 = German TV station) 20 years ago.
Oli: ...when he was 33 years old!
Tony: (laughs) That's not true!
Oli: I've been to a heavy metal shop and bought Metal Hammer. When I left through the magazine I thought I don't want to be on its cover but a CD review would be great. Though for me it was the purchase of Metal Hammer.
Tony: My uncle took me to a Bon Jovi concert at the age of 12. On the New Jersey tour. It was so fantastic to see the show that I got a guitar from my parents. And for you (points to Rob) it was through your daddy, right?
Rob: Yeah, in my case it happened through my dad. He plays drums and he let me play them when I was a young boy at the age of 5. That's when it started.
I started to play drums and discovered my passion for music. Then I got an acoustic guitar as a present from my stepmom and briefly after that I bought a guitar book.
(Oli was yawning very loud)
Rob to Oli: Fuck you!
Rob: Yeah, well, that's how it started.
Oli: And when his grandma sent him to the henhouse to muck out the hens he found a bass...
Tony: ... and a piano...
Oli: ... and by this piano...
Rob: He says that because he's only able to play guitar. That's the only instrument he can play. He's jealous!
Tony: He's our all rounder (points to Rob). He can do everything.
Nicole: Which other instruments do you play?
Rob: Drums, piano, guitar...
Tony: And every now and then he sings with us.
Nicole: If you could put together the ultimate tour, including your own band, which bands would you like to tour with?
Rob: HIM!
Oli: Led Zeppelin
Tony: That's a hard one... Metallica cause I grew up with them. They were my heroes.
Nicole: If you could meet any person, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Oli: Jim Morrison
Rob: Me too!
Oli: Because his death was awesome and I love his lifestyle and...
(Carsten - van driver, merch man- made coffee with a very noisy coffeemaker that made everybody laugh)
Oli: or that guy who's just making coffee. So, I'd like to be Jim Morrison or Coffee-Carsten!
Tony: My dream came true already. I met Tori Amos.
Oli: But the question is who you'd like to be.
Tony: No, who you'd like to meet.
Oli: Oooh, alright...
Nicole: So, who would you like to meet?
Oli: I have no idea. Who would I like to meet? Who would I like to meet? On no account a musician but... an actor... yeah, an actor e.g. Halle Berry.
Nicole: What bands are you listening to these days?
Oli: I'm a huge fan of... oh that would be someone I'd like to meet as well: Nikki Sixx! I bought his book "The Heroin Diaries". Besides to this book is a CD released. The band is called "Sixx: A.M." and it set this book to music. It wasn't a big success in Germany but all the more in America. I do really love this CD at the moment and even more because no one bought it in Germany. When I was younger I wanted to discover new bands which were not known in Germany. I stumbled upon them just for myself. That's why it is "Sixx: A.M." and Nikki Sixx.
Rob: Me too!
Oli: Really?
Tony: Me as well!
Oli: But I was the first to find out about him!
Nicole: What are your plans for 2009?
Oli: Meeting Halle Berry (grins). There will be many festival shows next year. A tour in Turkey, a tour in the Netherlands and some festival shows in Germany.
Tony: I'd like to go to America. We've never been there before.
Nicole: Would you like to support a certain band or be the headliner?
Tony: A small club tour with The 69 Eyes. That would be great!
Nicole: Message for your fans?
Oli: My message for our fans is: Drink a lot!
Tony: My message is: Keep up!
Rob: And mine is: Rock 'N' Sad!
